The Point: Regional Workforce Population Statistics

One of the most abundant resources in the Tri-State area is an available skilled workforce. Employers in the region draw from a deep labor pool from Portsmouth, and Ironton, Ohio, Ashland, Kentucky, and Huntington, West Virginia.

Dedicated and diverse, the majority of the workforce has specialized skills in key areas of production and technology. In addition to being qualified and affordable, the workforce is available and can benefit companies with low labor costs and a strong work ethic.

The area around The Point is located in the Huntington-Ashland-Ironton Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) which is comprised of Lawrence & Scioto Counties in Ohio, Boyd, Greenup, and Carter counties in Kentucky, and Cabell and Wayne counties in West Virginia.

The Point: Regional Training and Education

The educational resources available are plentiful in the Tri-State area. Six colleges and universities are located within or near The Point and partner with local industry to recruit and train both entry-level and skilled workers. Ohio University Southern, Marshall University, Morehead State University Ashland campus, Ashland Community and Technical College, Shawnee State University and Huntington Junior College provide custom-designed courses for business and industry.

The Workforce Development Resource Center, located in nearby Ironton, Ohio, provides employment screening, interviewing assistance, ACT Work Keys assessment services, career development, and customized training for area employers. The Collins Career Center offers more than 40 courses for youth and adults, preparing them to enter, compete, and advance in the workplace. The center can also provide custom-designed courses for business and industry.
